The Consumer Protection Agency of Gujarat (CAPAG) was established by the State Government in 1985 under the Public Charitable Trust Act, 1950 to accelerate consumer protection activities and protect the interests of consumers. The Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department serves as its Chairman. The Controller of Legal Metrology and Director of Consumer Affairs serves as the Director. The executive committee of CAPAG consists of 7 government members and 5 non-government members elected from recognized consumer protection organisations, including one woman member and one tribal member. CAPAG recommends to the Government for recognition and financial assistance to consumer protection organisations.
